UN Millennium Project’s Quick Impact Initiative on Malaria marks a crucial opportunity for scaling up best practices and developing new approaches where needed to attain significant reductions in the malaria burden over the immediate term.
This web-based portal provides national malaria control program managers from the participating countries with a forum for continuous discussion of the different implementation issues and challenges encountered by the countries and their supporting partners on the way to achieving universal coverage with the key malaria control interventions by 2008 as proposed by the Quick Impact Initiative.
Designed to establish an online malaria database, this portal provides an electronic platform to the network of program managers for data exchange on the key aspects of malaria control activities and a basis upon which malaria control programs can be scaled up to national level.
The UN Millennium Project’s Quick Impact Initiative is open to all malaria endemic countries. If you would like to be part of this networking effort and become a ‘Quick Impact’ country, please contact us with a letter of interest.

The Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Quick-Impact Initiative Meeting January 30th and 31st, 2006,
Nobel Forum, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden
On January 30 and 31, a landmark meeting took place in Stockholm. For the first time ever, malaria and neglected tropical diseases
(NTDs) communities were convened to advance the Malaria Quick Impact Initiative endorsed by the United Nations (UN) 2005 World Summit and to expand this initiative to include NTDs.
The major outcomes of this meeting are:
■ Endorsement of the UN Millennium Project's scaling-up concept and plans for achieving the Millennium Development Goal 6 (combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases)
■ Integration of control of malaria and neglected tropical diseases at a national level
■ Development, by the end of April 2006, of comprehensive national plans for scaling-up
■ Development and introduction of monitoring and evaluation metrics
■ Identification of financing sources for the Quick Impact Initiative (e.g. WB, GFATM, official donors, debt relief)
■ Establishment of new procurement arrangements led by GFATM in partnership with UNICEF and WHO
■ Encouragement of new mechanisms, such as mass free distribution of nets and medicines and application of indoor residual spraying
■ Rolling out of Breaking the Bottlenecks Project of the Quick Impact Initiative aiming at resolving the bottlenecks to the efficient implementation of malaria and NTDs programs
■ Reconvening each year in Stockholm in order to evaluate progress and fine-tune future initiatives

Malaria Research and Development: An Assessment of Global Investment
The Malaria R&D Alliance released the report officially at the Fourth Multilateral Initiative on Malaria (MIM) Pan-African Malaria Meeting in November 2005. The report is the first significant product of the Malaria R&D Alliance, a group of malaria R&D organizations jointly advocating for global commitment for increased and sustained resources for malaria R&D. The Malaria R&D Alliance’s report, based on data from malaria R&D donors and recipients from all over the world, establishes a baseline of current global investment for malaria R&D.Full report
